THE KINGDOM OF ROSAVELLE

Rosavelle is a small island nation situated in what its people call the Azurite Sea. Though distant from its neighboring lands, it sees a steady flow of visitors thanks to its reputation as a small but notable trade hub. The climate is temperate and gentle, with the weather ebbing and flowing with the phases of Calyx, a rose in the sky that seems to take the place of Rosavelle's sun and moon. Each Season is roughly analogous to one from Earth - Wilting is Fall, Fallow is Winter, Budding and Ripening are Spring while Flourish and Full Bloom are Summer.

As the kingdom is so large, players are given the freedom to handwave smaller details and incidental locations. Some information to get you started can be found below.

The island is divided into several districts, all of which can be easily accessed through the many canals that cover the island. Menthward is Rosavelle's lively market district, where boats travel the waterways and vendors sell fruit, seafood, and flowers from their boats. Marelys sits along the southern coast and is home to the island's fishing docks and coral farms. Bellvine Hill is where many of the wealthier citizens and nobles live, with stone paths and balconies covered in flowers overlooking the sea. Primavain is the center of Rosavelle's artisan community, filled with open-air markets, workshops, and plenty of flowers. And of course, there's the Castle Grounds where most of the government busywork of Rosavelle gets done.

Much of Rosavelle's food and textile resources are produced on the island itself - seafood, fruit, and coral farming are major industries - and life here is comfortable for most. There is little to no poverty, just greater or lesser access to luxury and status, and foundational education is freely available to all. For higher education - particularly in academia, specialized magical study, or the sciences - students often pursue opportunities on the mainland, though many eventually return to contribute to island life.

Rosavelle uses a simple two-tier currency: Crowns and Pieces, with 100 Pieces to a Crown. Daily necessities cost around 20 Crowns, and most citizens earn about 20,000 Crowns a year. Crowns handle everyday purchases, while Pieces cover small expenses. Anything beyond comfort - like fine dining (50 - 100 Crowns), magical services, or custom imports - will be priced accordingly. Wealthy citizens, especially those in Bellvine Hill, often earn 50,000+ Crowns annually.

Housing throughout Rosavelle tends to be modest, often built into or around existing gardens and waterways. More luxurious homes and estates are found in Bellvine Hill and other elevated areas, while the canal-lined streets of Menthward are lined with townhouses and apartments above the waterline. Most people travel by boat, with water taxis and ferries connecting all major parts of the island, though on-foot carriages for public and private use are easy to find as well.

Rosavelle's entertainment scene isn't exactly what you'd call wild, but there's still plenty to do before and after night falls. Menthward is home to a handful of cozy pubs, outdoor music circles, and candlelit lounges. Maerlys offers bonfire parties on the beach and starlit sailing excursions. Even Bellvine Hill hosts dances or spontaneous musical gatherings, as well as something stranger: the occasional late-night masquerade - if you can snag an invitation.
MENTHWARD

Town Hall
A charming, ivy-draped building sat beside one of Menthward's widest canals, Rosavelle Town Hall serves as the more accessible, approachable face of the kingdom's government. While the grander matters of state happen up at the castle, this is where everyday Rosavellans come to sort permits, register events, or bring their concerns to the officials who actually listen. The manicured garden out front is almost as famous as the building itself. This is where the [Quest Board] can be ICly located, a well-loved bulletin board in the main hall overflowing with requests for help, odd jobs and the like. It's maintained by the Town Hall's staff, so be sure to check in with them if you want to fulfil - or submit! - a request.

The Promenade
The district's main (on land) street, lined with flower carts, pop-up performances, and cozy cafes. Lanterns crisscross overhead and glow like warm fireflies after sunset. While the canals are where you'll find the most variety, the Promenade is home to most of Rosavelle's most reliable, long-term shops and cafes. An open-air market is held three times a week as a more accessible alternative for those who can't make it down the canals.

Belamour Bridge
The standout feature of Menthward's prettiest canal, Belamour Bridge is impossible to miss... mostly because it's absolutely smothered in flowers. Couples and companions of all stripes from across Rosavelle come here to hang their collaboratively woven flower crowns as a symbol of their affection. The magic of Rosavelle ensures that as long as the relationship blooms, so too does the crown, so of course the bridge is dripping with flora.

Canalstar Outfitters
A shop geared towards travelers and locals alike, selling stylish but practical outerwear, accessories, and footwear perfect for navigating Rosavelle's waterways. Rain cloaks, wide-brimmed hats, enchanted waterproof satchels - you name it, they carry it. The tailors here are particularly skilled and will happily adjust just about anything in the shop to match your needs, and if there's nothing that suits your fancy, they'll whip up something brand new instead.

The Floating Basket
A lively floating market where boats drift by selling fruit, seafood, garlands, and handmade trinkets. The vendors are notoriously good at upselling, but it's hard to resist when the strawberries and fish came straight off another boat five minutes earlier.

Doctor Lavande's Canal Clinic
If you can't make it to the doctor, the doctor will make it to you! ...by boat, of course. Dr. Lavande is a well-known figure in Menthward, piloting their bright teal gondola down the canals with a little lantern swinging from the bow and a small cabinet of medical supplies on board. Equal parts healer, busybody, and beloved neighborhood fixture, they offer check-ups, quick treatments, and friendly scolding wherever they dock.Their services are mostly basic - patching up minor injuries, offering wellness advice, or soothing seasickness - but their network of contacts means they can direct you to more serious care if needed. A handy option if you're under the weather but too busy, too stubborn, or too seasick to get off your boat.

Rosette Rentals
A bustling little dock offering short-term luxury canal boat rentals for residents and tourists alike. Whether you're looking to take a scenic cruise or impress your crush with a private boat ride, they've got options ranging from charmingly rustic to obnoxiously luxurious.
MARELYS

Mouette Docks
As the bustling, briny heart of Marelys' maritime life, the Mouette Docks are rarely quiet and never dull. The air hums with activity: sailors shouting greetings, merchants haggling over prices, gulls wheeling overhead (and eyeing unattended snacks), and fishing boats bobbing gently beside coral-farming vessels as crews haul in the day's catch. Most of the seafood making its way to Rosavelle's markets or castle kitchens starts its journey here. Locals often gather along the dockside cafes or leaning over railings to watch the organized chaos unfold.

Harbor Bloom Market
A cheerful, open-air collection of stalls where locals gather at dawn to trade the island's freshest treasures just steps away from the briny deep where they were retrieved. While the market is best known as a place to pick up the freshest catches of fish as soon as they're hauled onto shore, you can also find raw coral for use in magic or mundane crafting and all sorts of seaside and sealife flora and fauna just ready to take home with you. Or if you're not the cooking type, there's plenty of street food vendors ready to serve up anything you buy into a delicious fish dish. Nothing hits like sashimi fresh from the waves!

The Thistle & Thorn
The dock's favorite pub and the unofficial watering hole for anyone looking to unwind. The pub is beloved for its warm, lived-in atmosphere and its truly impressive range of local ales, ciders, and fruity cocktails. Regulars pack the place for trivia nights, lowkey acoustic performances, and the inevitable, absolutely chaotic sing-alongs that break out after a few too many drinks. If you're after a proper meal, their seafood stew is famous as a hangover cure... or at least keeping you full while you nurse one.

Coraline Strand
A soft, sandy stretch of beach along Marelys' southern curve. By day, the shore is peaceful but rarely crowded - perfect for lounging, sketching the waves, or otherwise escaping the bustle of the markets and docks. Once night falls, the Strand transforms into a favorite haunt for moonlit strolls, quiet picnics, and night fishing for those pesky specimens who can't be caught while it's light out. The sand is lightly luminescent, and a few artists in the community are known for making ephemeral drawings in the sand to be enjoyed before the morning tide washes them away again.

Roselight Springs
A beloved bathhouse that's been running for generations, built around the island's naturally occurring hot springs. Locals flock here after long days at sea or the bustling markets to wash off in the mineral-rich pools or enjoy a good steaming in the saunas. Private baths and shared open-air springs are both available, making it perfect for everything from solitary relaxation to gossip sessions with friends. Rumor has it the waters here do everything from revitalize your skin to curing migraines, and while that's probably not all true, you'll definitely feel better once you leave than you did before going in.

Lapis Lookout
Perched high on the Marelys cliffs and beloved among locals and tourists alike for offering some of the most breathtaking views of the bay across the whole kingdom. The path winds through flowering hedges and swaying grasses until you reach the overlook, marked by a single carved bench worn smooth by decades of use. The fence and all the surrounding trees have been strung with a number of wind chimes, as a good-luck tradition in Rosavelle to wish departing ships safe passage. As it's such a beloved spot, locals claim more than a few grand love stories (and catastrophic breakups) began right here.
PRIMAVAIN

Marigold Hall
A beloved community fixture in Primavain. A cheerful, bustling workshop space where locals and visiting artisans alike can rent time at shared looms, forges, kilns, and painting studios. The Hall prides itself on being open to everyone, whether you're a seasoned master or someone who's never held a brush in their life. Throughout the year, Marigold Hall also hosts seasonal craft fairs, exhibitions, and hands-on classes. It's a great place to pick up new skills, trade ideas, or just admire the endless creativity the artisans of Rosavelle have to offer. No experience is necessary - just your enthusiasm.

Fountain Market Plaza
A lively, bustling hub dedicated entirely to handmade and artisan goods made by local craftspeople from around the kingdom. This open-air marketplace attracts a colorful array of local craftspeople - from skilled weavers and potters to jewelry makers and candle crafters - all eager to showcase their finest creations. Many set up small demonstration areas where they'll happily chat about their craft or offer quick lessons for the curious. During the warmer and sunnier seasons, the plaza bursts into even greater life with themed craft fairs, live music and storytelling, and workshops that invite everyone to try their hand at everything from flower weaving to glassblowing.

Little Buds Atelier
A childcare facility for little ones who are a bit too young to start formal schooling just yet. Children here spend their days painting with enchanted watercolors, listening to music from wandering street performers, and learning their first bits of flower lore from patient caretakers. The atelier operates on a community model, welcoming kids from all across the island regardless of background, so it's as common to see the child of a noble as it is the kid of a florist or artisan building block towers together. Its staff of caretakers are all volunteers and most are artisans themselves, offering short creative workshops when they're not wrangling tiny hands and snack breaks.

The Amber Knot
A bakery that everyone in Rosavelle seems to know by name - and for good reason. The cozy interior is lined with honey-toned wooden shelves packed with confections, and on weekends the warm, buttery smell spills into the streets. Their signature rose-shaped bread isn't just pretty to look at - it's got an irresistibly sweet taste and texture. Their cookies are something else entirely - frosted with equal parts sugar and Bloomcraft, the Knot's treats have a way of brightening even the dullest day. It's a sort-of agreed upon tradition by those around Primavain that presenting someone with a surprise confection from the Knot is a plausibly deniable way to flirt.

Sablier Repairs
The go-to spot for anyone with a malfunctioning clockwork device... or anything even remotely mechanical, really. From delicate music boxes to sturdy canal boat engines, if it ticks, tocks, or whirs, this is where you bring it. The shop's owner, a young man who once studied on the mainland before returning to the island, is a friendly, eccentric tinkerer with a boundless curiosity for all things tech and magic. Always ready with a warm smile and a quick story, he's just as happy to fix your treasured heirloom as he is to share the latest trends in enchantment or offer a crash course in basic magical mechanics.

Bloomlight Theater
A charming playhouse tucked along one of Primavain's canal streets, its ivy-covered facade marked by a glowing rose-shaped lantern above the entrance. Inside, the theatre is intimate rather than grand - velvet seats, golden sconces, and a stage that seems to shimmer faintly under the lights thanks to subtle enchantments woven into the wood. The Bloomlight is famous for its community productions, which range from lighthearted comedies and romances to experimental plays written by local poets. Traveling troupes and musicians often book short runs here, too. Audiences are encouraged to bring flowers, not just as gifts for the performers but also to decorate the stage - by the end of a show, it's often covered in blossoms. On quiet nights, the theatre doubles as a gathering space for open-mic poetry, impromptu serenades, and story-sharing circles.

String & Soul
Primavain's go-to tailor shop - and unofficial gossip headquarters. The boutique itself is warm and inviting, with bolts of fabric stacked from floor to ceiling, sewing machines humming softly in the background, and the faint smell of lavender and old books lingering in the air. The owners, a sharp-eyed but kind-hearted duo, have a reputation for patching up just about anything from ripped sleeves to broken hearts. It's said they know all the neighborhood's secrets - not through any magic, but because they're the first to sew the evidence of passionate affairs, dramatic breakups, and all manner of other relationship dramas out of (or in to!) their repairs.
BELLVINE HILL

Whisperbloom Arbor
An ancient tangle of flowering vines and delicate archways found near the crest of Bellvine Hill. Nobody's quite sure of its origin, and the arbor is said to predate even the oldest Rosavellan records. The vines bloom year-round, their petals shifting softly in color with the seasons, and at night, faint whispers drift through the leaves. Some say it's the voices of past rulers, long-lost lovers, or maybe even the Everbloom itself. Others insist it's just the wind - and yet, many still visit with offerings of flowers, letters, or tokens of affection, in hopes that whatever magic keeps these old blooms alive might do a little something for their love life too

Hearthhall Archive
Tucked behind a wrought-iron gate and hidden within a converted townhouse of ivy-draped balconies, the Hearthhall Archive is one of Bellvine Hill's best-kept secrets. This privately run library specializes in the day to day history of Rosavelle, archiving personal letters, handwritten journals and all sorts of writings done by Rosavellans of years gone by. Though small, the Archive is lovingly curated, and the caretakers are known to discreetly guide curious patrons toward entries that just might resonate with their own stories.

Printemps Boutique
A boutique specializing in high-end everyday clothing. The shopfront window always dazzles with new displays - gowns stitched with shifting patterns of morning dew, jackets embroidered with threads that glint like stained glass, scarves that unfurl into cascades of flower petals when twirled. The shop's proprietor, a flamboyant designer with a laugh as big as their heart, is known for encouraging customers to try on anything and everything - “clothing should make you fall in love, especially with yourself.”, apparently. Printemps is especially popular during festival seasons, when locals flock to commission bespoke ensembles, but it's also a welcoming space year-round for anyone looking to add a little magic to their wardrobe. Regulars claim it's impossible to leave without feeling at least a little more radiant.

Honeysuckle Inn
A modest but beloved bed-and-breakfast known for its cozy charm and floral touches. Each guest room is named after a different flower - Rose, Violet, Peony, Honeysuckle - with matching fresh blooms tucked into vases by the windowsills. The real draw, though, is the kitchen. According to at least one very insistent local (and several tourists who tend to agree), the inn serves the best blackberry tart in all of Rosavelle. Whether or not that's true, there's no denying it tastes sweeter when enjoyed on the ivy-wrapped terrace overlooking the sea.

The Belltower
High up on the top of Bellvine Hill is a slender old tower wrapped in ivy and trumpet-shaped blooms. Once used to keep an eye on incoming ships, it's long since fallen out of formal use in favor of structures closer to the shore - its bell rusted, the spiral stairs creaky, and the lantern room empty. Locals whisper about the bell that sometimes tolls without warning: some insist that it heralds good fortune, while others claim a terrible omen - or all of the above, depending on who you're talking to. Skeptics, of course, blame the wind. It's a long held but ostensibly frowned upon tradition for teenagers to do ‘ghost walks' of the tower on the longest night of the year, but it's been almost a decade since anyone reached the lantern room on one...

Rosestone Apothecary
Known for their exacting standards and finely crafted remedies, Rosestone caters to nobles, wealthy merchants, and anyone with the coin for their expertise. The shelves are lined with polished glass bottles, fragrant herbal blends, and carefully labelled magical tinctures, all overseen by a team of skilled practitioners. Their bedside manner can be a little... chilly, but the results speak for themselves. They handle everything from curing common illnesses to crafting long-term wellness tonics and magical preventative care. For delicate matters - be it love spells gone wrong, stubborn curses, or discreet cosmetic enhancements - Rosestone's staff maintain strict confidentiality. If you're after something frivolous, their services can get pricey, but those in legitimately poor health or genuine need will always be seen for barely a penny.

Marquess Lyric Academy
Rosavelle's premier full-time school. Don't let the sweeping sea views and flower-draped balconies fool you - students here are expected to hit the books, whether they're memorizing the finer points of history, studying languages, or learning the basics of Bloomcraft. Originally founded by one of Rosavelle's old noble houses (hence the fancy name), the Academy has long since opened its doors to students from all walks of life. The facilities include airy classrooms, magical practice spaces, a greenhouse for beginner Bloomcraft, and courtyards perfect for both studying... or ditching class, depending on your priorities.
